Optical add-drop multiplexers based on the antisymmetric waveguide Bragg grating.

چکیده
A novel optical add-drop multiplexer (OADM) based on a null coupler with an antisymmetric grating was designed and experimentally demonstrated. The antisymmetric grating exclusively produces a reflection with mode conversion in a two-mode waveguide. This improves the performance compared with previous demonstrations that used tilted Bragg gratings. Our design minimizes noise and cross talk produced by reflection without mode conversion. In addition, operational bandwidth and, versatility are improved while the compactness and simplicity of the null coupler OADM are maintained.

Design Considerations in Optical Add/Drop Multiplexers Based on Grating-Assisted Null Couplers
The performance of a fully optimized optical add/drop multiplexer (OADM), based on null couplers and tilted Bragg gratings, is studied in detail. It is shown that maximization of the device performance involves three main optimization steps. First, the waveguide asymmetry ( 2 1 ratio) should be optimized in order to minimize the extinction ratio of the unwanted mode at the null coupler waist. S...
متن کاملAn Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer with a Grating-Loaded Directional Coupler in Silica Waveguides∗
An optical add-drop multiplexer with a gratingloaded directional coupler in silica waveguides is demonstrated. The device for this configuration has a large fabrication tolerance and is small in size. A new scheme, in which the coupling length of the directional coupler is twice the complete coupling length, enables low cross-talk for both add and drop operations. This device is polarization-in...
متن کاملWidely tunable long-period waveguide grating filters
This paper presents a review of the development of long-period waveguide gratings (LPWGs) with focus on the realization of various kinds of tunable devices, such as band-rejection filters, variable attenuators, band-pass filters, and add/drop multiplexers. A number of specific examples are given to demonstrate how the geometry and material flexibility of the optical waveguide technology facilit...

Due to the growing demand for higher bandwidth, employing optical devices instead of electronic devices in data transmission systems has attracted much attention in recent years. Optical switches, modulators and wavelength converters are a few examples of the required optical devices. CMOS compatible fabrication of these devices, leads to much more growing of this technology. Optical pulse comp...
متن کاملA Highly Efficient Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer Using Photonic Band Gap with Hexagonal Hole Lattice Photonic Crystal Slab Waveguides
We report on a channel drop filter with a mode gap in the propagating mode of a photonic crystal slab that was fabricated on silicon on an insulator wafer. The results, simulated with the 3-dimensional finite-difference time-domain and plane-wave methods, demonstrated that an index-guiding mode for the line defect waveguide of a photonic crystal slab has a band gap at wave vector k = 0.5 for a ...
